    SOA Co-organizes the 8th New Silk Road Accounting Forum

    On October 27, the highly anticipated 8th New Silk Road Accounting Forum was successfully held at Sichuan University. The forum was sponsored by the Council of the New Silk Road Accounting Forum and co-organized by the School of Accounting (SOA) of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) and the Business School of Sichuan University. The forum focused on the profound theme of "Accounting Reform and Corporate Financial Innovation Driven by New Quality Productive Forces" and attracted over 300 renowned experts, young scholars, and postgraduates from 42 universities nationwide.

    At the opening ceremony, leaders from the forum's sponsor and organizers delivered speeches respectively. Ma Yongqiang, Vice President of SWUFE, stressed in his speech that in the era of rapid technological development, the development of accounting discipline must conform to the trends of the times and actively make changes. Using fundamental accounting principles such as the going concern assumption and the accounting period assumption as examples, he illustrated ways to make innovations in traditional accounting theories.

    Li Xiaofeng, Secretary of the CPC Committee at the Business School of Sichuan University, said in his speech that this forum aligned with the trends of the times and addressed social concerns, attracting wide attention. He expressed hope that the experts and scholars attending the forum would collaborate to advance the accounting discipline to a new level of high-quality development.

    Tian Gaoliang, Associate Dean of the School of Management at Xi'an Jiaotong University, delivered a speech on behalf of the sponsor. He said that the advancement of new-generation information technology has posed great challenges to accounting theory and practice. He hoped that everyone would collaborate to build an intelligent accounting talent training system integrating industry and education.

    The opening ceremony of this forum was presided over by Ying Qianwei, Dean of the Accounting and Corporate Finance Department at the Business School of Sichuan University.

    In the keynote speech session, Professor Allen Huang, Associate Dean of the Business School of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Jin Qinglu, Dean of the School of Accounting at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Professor Li Qingyuan, Level-2 Professor at Wuhan University, and Professor Xu Nianhang, Director of the Department of Finance, Renmin Business School, Renmin University of China, delivered keynote speeches. These speeches are titled "Corporate Risk Disclosure, Stock Price Comovement and Expected Returns", "Macro and Micro Roles of Accounting Information", "Thoughts on Innovation in Corporate Finance and Accounting Research", and "AI-Driven Corporate Finance Research" respectively. The keynote speeches were presided over by Professor Tang Xuesong from SWUFE, Professor Xin Qingquan from Chongqing University, Professor Huang Jingjing from Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Institute, and Professor Pan Yue from Xiamen University.

    A total of 10 parallel forums were held. The parallel forums focused on themes such as digital economy, digital and green transformation, macro-micro interaction, human capital decision-making, corporate governance, corporate debt decision-making, information disclosure, sustainable development, and audit research. During these sessions, participants exchanged and discussed the 40 papers selected by the Organizing Committee.

    Additionally, during the roundtable forum, chief editors of various journals shared their insights and engaged in interactive exchanges on topics such as paper submission and review, providing valuable academic guidance for participants. These editors included Professor Cheng Xinsheng, Chief Editor of Nankai Business Review, Professor Shi Jin, Deputy Chief Editor of Accounting & Finance, Professor Li He, Editor of Journal of Information System, Assistant Professor Zhang Xinyi, Editor of China Journal of Accounting Research, and Chen Xingtong from the Editorial Department of Financial Innovation. Professor Chen Lei from SWUFE presided over the session.

    The forum also held an award ceremony for excellent papers. Professors Shi Jin, Tang Xuesong, Li He, and Ying Qianwei presented honorary certificates to the representatives of award-winning papers. A total of two first prizes, three second prizes, and five third prizes were awarded in this forum, fully demonstrating the research results and academic excellence within the accounting circle.

    As the representative of the organizers, Professor Tang Xuesong, Dean of SOA at SWUFE, made a summary of the forum. This forum not only established a high-end exchange platform for the accounting community but also further promoted the innovation and development of the accounting discipline. SOA at SWUFE will continue to uphold the spirit of openness and cooperation and collaborate with professionals from all sectors to contribute to the growth and advancement of the accounting discipline.

    At the end of the forum, Professor Jiang Shuiquan, Associate Dean of the School of Accounting at Chongqing Technology and Business University, delivered a speech as the representative of the organizer for the next New Silk Road Accounting Forum. This highlights the inheritance and sustainable development of the New Silk Road Accounting Forum. SOA at SWUFE eagerly anticipates meeting with professionals from all sectors again to witness the promising future of the accounting discipline.
