Recently, a delegation of three members from the School of Accounting, which consists of Associate Professor Zhao Chen, Director of the Professional English Teaching and Research Center, and staff from the International Exchange and Cooperation Office of the School of Accounting, Hao Ruoxin and Luo Hanlin, conducted an in-depth visit and exchange at Baruch College of the City University of New York.
On May 28, the delegation attended the 2024 Commencement Ceremony of Baruch College, City University of New York, held at the Barclays Center in New York. Graduates from our 2024 Accounting Program (Chinese-foreign cooperative education) participated in the ceremony, with three students being recognized as Outstanding Graduates of Baruch College's Class of 2024. Throughout the nearly decade-long program, students' diligent and excellent performance has been direct proof of the program's top-tier quality, with its social influence and reputation increasingly prominent, receiving not only high praise from international partners but also widespread acclaim from students in the program, their parents, employers, and various sectors of society.
The delegation then had an in-depth discussion with professors at Baruch College. The delegation held a preparation meeting with Baruch College professors who will be teaching accounting students in the Chinese-foreign cooperative education program at the School of Accounting, SWUFE, next semester. The meeting focused on preparing them for their upcoming teaching assignment at SWUFE. Both parties conducted comprehensive and in-depth discussions on the teaching arrangements and mutual teacher visits and learning exchanges.
The delegation also visited the residences of some students enrolled in the 2021 program who had just arrived in the United States. The purpose was to gain a deep understanding of the students' real life in America and to help the students quickly adapt to their new living and learning environment through this warm approach. During the exchanges, they not only asked students about their daily lives, but also encouraged them to maintain their love for their motherland, broaden their international perspectives, and study diligently. They expressed hope that the students would one day contribute their knowledge and passion to the development of China.
Additionally, the delegation was invited to the orientation meeting for the 2021 program students at Baruch College. At the beginning of the event, Sonali Hazarika, Associate Professor and Executive Director of Zicklin Undergraduate Programs, warmly welcomed the new students of the 2021 cohort. Following that, heads from various Baruch College departments, including the International Student Service Center, Admissions and Credit Transfer Office, and the Speaking Center, provided detailed introductions to their functions and resources available for program students. Subsequently, the delegation held in-depth discussions with the administrative team of Baruch College. Both sides emphasized to the students the importance of their one-year study at Baruch College. They also provided guidance on how to use Baruch College's course selection system while clarifying the credit transfer processes and requirements between Chinese and American universities. This provided the program students with detailed and targeted academic support.
To help the students better adapt to their new learning and living environment, the delegation also arranged for students to attend a session at Baruch College, where they met with senior students from the program. Professor Kannan Mohan, Associate Dean of the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College, delivered an inspiring opening speech. He encouraged the students to push beyond their limits, step out of their comfort zones, expand their networks, make new friends, and fully experience the unique charm of New York City. Afterwards, alumni from previous cohorts shared their valuable experiences with the students, covering various aspects such as studying in the US, strategies for graduate school applications, career development paths, and daily life. The atmosphere was lively, and the students unanimously agreed that they had learned a great deal.
The delegation's visit was tightly scheduled, rich in content, and highly rewarding. Over the past decade since the program's establishment, our graduates have earned high recognition both domestically and internationally. The program has achieved significant educational outcomes in international disciplinary development, international curriculum construction, cultivation of global talent, and building an internationalized faculty team. Furthermore, it has made positive contributions to strengthening youth exchanges between China and the United States, deepening China-US cultural cooperation, and solidifying the social and public foundation of China-US friendship. The program will continue to strictly adhere to the Ministry of Education's requirements for Chinese-foreign cooperative education, implementing the policy of "expanding openness, standardizing operations, managing according to law, and promoting development". We will continuously enhance the quality of talent cultivation to build a high-quality model program in accounting education through Chinese-foreign cooperation that satisfies the public in this "new era", contributing a highlight to Chinese-American educational cooperation.
